A top weekend for any kind of group, but especially good for hen parties and birthdays:

Friday night        Groups arrive and check into dorms (any time between 4 and 11pm). Head into Keswick for a little light refreshment - or arrange to meet your group in the Twa Dogs Inn, next door.

Saturday            Breakfast at 08:30. Your instructor will meet you at breakfast and run through the kit and safety briefings (they'll need to know about any medical problems at this stage so feel free to take them to one side if you'd rather discuss this in private - you should inform us of anything major at the time of booking). You'll then head down to Derwentwater on foot (a pleasant 20 minute stroll) and meet up with your instructors at the main Keswick landings.

Your canoeing day can be as energetic or laid back as required; you can learn the basic skills needed to go in a straight line quite quickly, and then head off on an expedition down the lake, or play games and practice further skills.

You'll have our most charming and debonair instructors to ensure your day is entertaining - they're also pretty good on the canoeing front...

Lunch is a hamper of sandwiches, salads, munchies, cream cakes with something bubbly to wash it down. You might land on one of the islands in the middle of the lake, or pull in at one of the quieter bays; your instructors will pick a sheltered spot and put up beach tents if the weather's inclement. The particularly enthusiastic may make it down as far as the Mary Mount Hotel for a G&T mid - afternoon.

This is a hugely popular day out; the scenery around Derwentwater is amazing in any weather and if it's hot you can have a swim in the lake. We can also easily accommodate group members who may need to take it easy for whatever reason.

Back to the hostel to shower and change, then off out to the many and varied delights of Saturday Night Keswick!

Sunday              Breakfast at 08:30 (ish!).

Those looking for a hangover cure might fancy a Ghyll Scramble (£20/person) - bit like a waterpark ride but more realistic! Alternatively you could have a spa morning at one of the nearby hotels, or just a mooch around Keswick

Common to all packages:

  • Arrival between 4pm and 11pm Friday - why not arrange to meet in the Twa Dogs Inn next door?

  • Accommodation is bunkhouse style in our hostel - see the Denton House hostel pages for further details. You will have exclusive use of dorms of 4 to 12 beds. You don't need to bring a sleeping bag, but don't forget towels.

  • Transport is not included but can be arranged.

  • Please check out by 11:00am on Sunday, unless you are doing activities Sunday morning. You're welcome to leave cars in the car park for the day.

  • We're very laid back about most things, but please read the  Hostel Info and Rules before you book!

  • We don't make restaurant bookings for groups, but please see the Alternative Guide pages for plenty of suggestions and contact details - we've indicated those that are good for big groups. We've also given details of many of the pubs that are worth a look.

  • If you'd like to add or swap any activities, or are interested in things we don't have listed, give the office a call or email and we'll see what we can do!
