A great combination of exhilaration and
excitement...
Friday night
Groups arrive and check into dorms (any time between 4 and 11pm). Head into
Keswick for a little light refreshment - or arrange to meet your group in the
Twa Dogs Inn, next door.
Saturday
Breakfast at 08:30. Your instructor will meet you at breakfast and run through the kit and safety
briefings for Ghyll Scrambling (they'll need to know about any medical problems at this stage so
feel free to take them to one side if you'd rather discuss this in private - you
should inform us of anything major at the time of booking).
The ghyll is about 15 minutes' drive from the hostel, and
you can follow our instructors up in your own cars. We provide wetsuits when we
think you'll need them!
Ghyll Scrambling:
Using
a range of dramatic sites throughout the Lake District, groups are
taken on an exhilarating descent of a fast flowing mountain stream. Team members
have to support and encourage each other as you scramble over rocks and through
deep pools. For the adventurous there are several jumps and a plunge into deep
swirling water which will really test your nerve!
After the ghyll you'll generally head back to the hostel for
a shower and change, and to pick up packed lunches. Alternatively, we can book
you into one of the local pubs for lunch.
Saturday Afternoon
Have a mooch around Keswick; take the launch around the
lake; go for a gentle stroll or hire mountain bikes if you're feeling energetic
- loads of options. Let us know if you'd like any suggestions, or have something
specific in mind...
Followed by the Keswick Saturday Night Experience!
Sunday:
Breakfast at 08:30
Head off to paintball at Holmescales Activity Centre. The
drive takes around 1 hour 15 minutes heading south down the M6 (if you are going
home northwards please let us know and we will arrange paintball in Carlisle).
Refreshments will be provided on arrival.
Holmescales is a fantastic venue for Paintball; they provide
an exciting game whilst maintaining high safety standards:
"At Holmescales we like to look after
all our paintballers in the best possible manner. We treat you all as our
corporate guests.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary fresh coffee, cakes and
other refreshments. This will all be laid on in our Quarry Lodge.
We supply all the equipment you need. Coveralls, gloves, hoods, goggles, battle
packs and not forgetting your Paintball Marker! We have a supply of Wellingtons
for those without sturdy footwear (price includes 200 paintballs!).
After a comprehensive briefing you’ll head off to the Urban Site for a practice
and final preparations.
We have three excellent paintball
terrains:
- Urban Site
This sloping grassy site provides the perfect starting point for your paintball
adventure. It's cover consists of wooden barriers, truck tyres, large containers
and even the odd car!
Teams will get the chance to play games such as satellite, code breaker and
little pig’s house. The grassy nature of the site lends itself to fast and
furious play.
The newly opened urban coppice adds another dimension to the site. This small
wooded area plays host to another paintballers favourite; “Charlotte Shack.” Can
you free the hostage?!
- The Woodland
As its name suggests the play steps up a gear now as the terrain becomes more
difficult. The woodland is steep and difficult under foot. Large deciduous trees
give cover for your attack at the fort. Are you able to reach the fort without
being spotted? Can you cross the main access route unnoticed? This is a
seriously difficult game.
- Gorse Ridge
As the names suggests you’re in for a prickly end if you get it wrong here! This
area of gorse bushes gives cover for some excellent game play. The maze of
connecting tracks shelter you as you hope to make a move on the opposition. The
site levels out towards the top making way to trenches. These again give
excellent cover as you progress towards your ultimate goal; Radar Love! St
Luke’s Bridge in the bottom plays host to another favourite game.
It’s up to you whether you play for an
hour or a full day. Generally, you'll need about 4 hours on site."
Head home!
