We are ideally situated for running a variety of outdoor activities at sites close to the centre. We specialise in Traditional Outdoor Activities and can adapt our sessions to meet specific individual or group objectives. We will always encourage teams to support each other and everyone to "go for it" and push their boundaries. Our Instructors are continuously assessed to ensure their teaching and safety skills remain of the highest quality. They are all extremely experienced in the activities they instruct and have worked with a wide range of clients.

Our Activities Manager is a qualified Senior Instructor (RYA and BCU) and holds several other National Governing Body Qualifications as do all our staff, both permanent and freelance.

We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority for the provision of activities for children - see the School and Youth page for details

The Activities...

Climbing and Abseiling

We offer a range of climbs and abseils in spectacular locations around the Lake District. Climbing is a hugely popular sport because it combines challenge with perceived risk and a fantastic sense of achievement when the goal is reached. In bad weather we use one of the local climbing walls. Not as dramatic but a lot drier!

Canoeing

Following in the tradition of Indian Traders in the North West Territories of America (really!) we will teach you to paddle open boats on Derwentwater. Whether you want be challenged and learn new skills or you prefer a leisurely float around the lake on a sunny afternoon with a picnic hamper, our instructors will make sure you are well looked after.

Raft Building

Where strategy may win out over brute strength...or then again it may not! You'll be divided into teams and will construct a raft from poles, barrels and rope which you then race around a course - whichever team gets back first with all members still attached to at least one bit of raft, wins (we have recently lifted our ban on structural engineers taking part but they may have to agree to be restrained if it all gets too much for them). Do bear in mind that if it's a nice day you may have a sizeable crowd cheering you on so feel free to come in costume...

Ghyll Scrambling

Using a range of dramatic sites throughout the Lake District, groups are taken on an exhilarating descent of a fast flowing mountain stream. Team members have to support and encourage each other as you scramble over rocks and through deep pools. For the adventurous there are several jumps and a plunge into deep swirling water which will really test your nerve!

Orienteering

Orienteering tests the group or individuals' navigation and information processing skills. We use several picturesque sites in the area and can design courses elsewhere to meet your objectives; incorporating Global Positioning System or even an overnight camp for the wilderness experience!
