Our commitment;

Vivid Events works in partnership with schools, colleges and youth groups to design and deliver outdoor activity programmes of the highest quality within a safe environment. In full consultation with our clients, we tailor our courses to fully address their specific learning objectives.

Whatever the detailed learning objectives may be they will always have at their core the elements of challenge, excitement and of adventure! Stimulating and rewarding activity programmes will provide the framework within which youngsters of all ages can develop socially, personally and intellectually.

The acquisition of new skills and knowledge is central to many of our courses, while others may develop intellectual processes such as problem solving. The successful achievement of new accomplishments in unfamiliar situations can generate a heightened sense of self esteem and confidence which is often continued into other aspects of life. We have recently introduced the National Navigation Award Scheme which offers specific qualifications in navigation (suitable for evening sessions during your stay) and provide a real sense of achievement.

A Shared Experience

School groups on our package deals take a portion of the responsibility for the running of the centre for the course of their trip. Organisation into teams for washing up, laying tables, checking the dining room is tidy and similar small but important tasks can help the students learn about teamwork and co-operation. Older groups may have meetings to decide on the standards of behaviour and attitude which are expected from all participants, and a large amount of positive peer pressure can help moderate challenging behaviour.

Food and Nutrition

We generally offer fully catered packages for our School and Youth groups (however Self Catering packages are available) which consist of a cooked breakfast, packed lunch (or a hot snack if you're all cold and wet) and home cooked evening meal. The evening meals in particular are carefully chosen to be filling and healthy - many students will find themselves doing considerably more exercise than at home and may find they need to increase  the quality and quantity of their food intake accordingly. We very much support the philosophy that you can't expect a growing child to do a full day of outdoor activities on junk food and as such we do not serve burgers, chips etc. There is a vegetarian option available at all times and we can cater for most special diets if notified in advance. Safety and Standards

We have an uncompromising attitude towards Health and Safety; the Activity Department is licensed by Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). Please see their website for further details http://www.aala.org/and our Activity pages for instructor information. Denton House is regularly inspected by Environmental Health, Health and Safety and the Fire Service.

Evening Activities

A range of optional evening activities is also available. Guided sessions include lake swimming, raft building and night hikes. We will also organise  rounders or football in the park, quizzes, treasure hunts and trips on the Launch around Derwentwater.

Exclusive use of centre

During 2003 we opened Denton House as an Independent backpackers and Group Hostel. However we can still provide exclusive use for larger school groups and for smaller groups we have an accommodation block which is separate from the main building, and we may be able to provide separate common room and eating areas. Please discuss your requirements with our office on initial enquiry. Link to Hostel pages: Denton House

Please note:

Our packages usually include full board accommodation, instruction on all activities and all necessary safety kit. Pupils are expected to waterproofs, stout footwear etc, although we may be able to help out if this will be a problem. We do not provide transport but can arrange it through a local minibus firm at reasonable rates (we can also tailor some programmes so that transport is not required as many activity sites are within walking distance). We do not accept Loco Parentis for students at any point and staff should be aware that we expect their groups to be adequately supervised at all times. We are happy to accept groups with special needs and challenging behaviour.
